The Symposium on the Mechanics of composites will be a meeting point where research students, engineers, and scientists working on all aspects of the mechanics of composite materials and structures will share and discuss their research. High-quality contributions are welcome in the areas of characterization and testing, design & optimization, and modelling of composites. The symposium aims to cover a broad range of topics related to research in mechanics of composite materials and structures, including (but not limited to)

  • Characterization of constituents, plies, and interfaces,
  • Strength, fracture, damage tolerance, and energy absorption,
  • Design and optimization for stiffness, buckling, strength, and damage tolerance,
  • Modelling and simulation of materials and structures,
  • Relationships between constituents, manufacturing, microstructure/architectures, and performance.

  • Additionally, the symposium welcomes contributions related to structural applications of composite materials in the aeronautical, automotive, marine, energy harvesting, sporting, and biomedical sectors. Finally, participation is encouraged in research areas not only related to conventional composites, but also to novel non-conventional constituents, microstructures/architectures, or manufacturing technologies.
